Can a person own more than one Quiznos restaurant?

Definitely. Many of our best operators are buying second, third, and more restaurants.

How often does the average Quiznos consumer visit your restaurant?

This varies tremendously. Some come almost daily, others only occasionally.

What time of day does Quiznos do most its business?

Quiznos does most of its business during the lunch hour. However, many restaurants have very successful dinner businesses. A few restaurants with high morning pedestrian traffic have chosen to offer breakfast as well.

How often do you release new products?

About seven times per year. We provide training, marketing materials and a major TV advertising campaign to support our product launches.

What is your delivery package?

Delivery is a great way to bring delicious Quiznos food to your customer, and directly build your business. When you sign up for delivery, Quiznos sends you a box full of the materials you need to set up and advertise delivery in your restaurant, and in your community. As part of the program, you can select from several direct mail options to generate excitement and awareness in your area. Car toppers, menus, maps and, of course, delivery training materials are also included.

What's my initial investment?

The total investment to begin operation of a traditional Quiznos restaurant ranges from $187,800 and $341,800 (excluding rent for your location), depending on the region you build in and the size of your restaurant. This covers all costs, including the franchise fee, architects, even your initial food order.

What do I need to qualify financially?

To buy a Quiznos franchise, you need a 670 credit score and a net worth of $125,000. As part of your net worth, you need $70,000 in liquid assets like cash or stocks which you can use to invest in your restaurant franchise opportunities. Net worth is defined as your total assets; so that's cash, stocks, homes, cars, recreational vehicles, businesses, and so on, less your total debt.

Do you help me secure financing?

We do. Once you join our top food franchise system, we share with you our list of lenders that offer third party financing. We also provide you with a simple computer model that helps you create financial projections for your banker.

What's your franchise fee?

In the US, the fee for your first franchise is $25,000. You get a price break when you become a multi-unit owner.

When do I need to pay the franchise fee and make other deposits?

You pay your $25,000 franchise fee when you buy your franchise. At the same time, you pay a $5,000 design fee that enables us to survey the site, have the lease reviewed and get your project rolling. Once your site and lease are approved, we ask for a $40,000 deposit. This money pays your architects and gets your equipment ordered. These three payments, totaling $70,000, typically represent the total equity our Franchise Owners initially invest in the project. Most Franchise Owners obtain a loan to pay the remaining costs.

How much do I pay in royalties?

Your royalties are 7% of gross sales, after discounts such as coupons.

How often do I pay royalties?

Franchise Owners pay royalties weekly.

What percentage do I pay for advertising and what does that money cover?

You pay a total of 4% of your gross sales, after discounts, into the Quiznos advertising fund. These funds are used to buy national TV advertising, fund market research and other activities that increase sales.

How do I estimate my profit from owning a Quiznos?

There are strict regulations in the franchise industry that limit our ability to estimate how successful your business could be. You need to do this yourself, but we can give some guidance.

Your sales primarily depend on the quality of the site, and your skill as an operator. So to estimate what your sales might be, look at other Quiznos restaurants that are in similar sites to the one you are reviewing. Find one with similar demographics (nearby employer and residence counts), and similar visibility and traffic. Ask that operator what their sales are. Adjust the number based on how good of an operator you believe him or her to be. Is the staff efficient and friendly? Is the dining area clean? Does the owner market to local businesses?

As for expenses, you should talk to a few operators in your market, and determine what their expenses are as a percent of their sales. You can apply those percentages to the sales estimate you make for your site.

What are the best locations for a new Quiznos restaurant?

With about 5,000 restaurants worldwide, Quiznos restaurants have been popular with a wide variety of customers all over the world. We have very successful restaurants in places as diverse as Costa Rica, Seattle and French-speaking Montreal, Canada. The key is to identify where your lunch business will come from. In many cases, the biggest sources of lunch traffic are nearby employers, such as office buildings, hospitals or large retailers. In other cases, your business might come from local residents who see your business on a busy road or in a shopping center they frequent.

What is the average size of a Quiznos Sub?

The average size is 1,400 square feet. We can build restaurants as small as about 1,000 square feet. We don't recommend restaurants larger than 1,800 square feet as this increases your rent and other expenses.

How does Quiznos decide how close one restaurant can be to another?

The distance between Quiznos restaurants varies based on the density of customers around the restaurant. So for example, Quiznos restaurants in New York City can be much closer together than they can in Wyoming. Our Market Planning team carefully reviews customer density data for every site we consider.

Who signs the lease agreement?

You sign your landlord's lease agreement.

How long will it take before my restaurant opens?

That depends on when the landlord is able to turn over the building for construction. Assuming the space is ready immediately, it takes about one month for architectural work, a couple of months to obtain building permits and a couple more months to complete construction. Of course, some sites are identified in shopping centers that aren't even built yet. Sometimes there is another business in the space, and we must wait for their lease to expire.

How much time do I need to spend in my restaurant?

It varies. Some opt to manage their restaurants so they don't need to pay someone else to do this, increasing their total cash flow from the business. Others provide cash for the investment, and hire a certified manager to operate the restaurant. We have very successful Franchise Owners who own multiple restaurants and spend their time managing the restaurant managers they've hired.

What's the average number of employees working at my restaurant?

You have between three and six employees working at any one time. You might have 15 total employees on your payroll if you use part-time employees to work different shifts.

Where do I buy my supplies, such as food and paper?

We have arranged for large distribution companies in your region to sell you everything you need. They provide you with an order guide, and we also give you tools to help estimate how much of each item you need to buy.

What is a MAT?

Market Advisory Teams (MAT) have been created in certain local markets. In MAT markets franchisees contribute an additional 1% of their gross sales to a special advertising fund that they can use to promote products of their choice.

Absolutely. You begin by working with a real estate expert, who helps you find your site and negotiate your lease. Then two of our experts team up to get you open: an Opening Project Manager oversees each state of your opening process, and a Director of Construction provides on-going assistance to you in your efforts to get your restaurant built on time and within budget.

What support does Quiznos offer to Franchise Owners?

Most of our Franchise Owners have never run a restaurant before joining our team. We offer extensive operational training, site selection and construction assistance, and ongoing coaching after you open your restaurant.

Do you help me with site selection?

Definitely. We support our Quiznos Franchise Owners with an experienced real estate team who helps with site selection and lease negotiation.

Once I buy a Quiznos franchise, how do I learn how to run my restaurant?

Whether you have previous restaurant, business or management experience Quiznos offers you a comprehensive and award-winning series of courses. You begin with an online class which typically can be completed in about 20 hours. Next, you train in a real restaurant in your region for two weeks with a real Franchise Owner as your expert instructor. This offers invaluable hands-on practice for all aspects of running your own Quiznos franchise. You conclude your initial education with one week at Quiznos University in Denver, Colorado where you focus on how to run a successful restaurant. Our coursework is designed to teach you everything you need to know to run your Quiznos. You continue to improve your skills after your restaurant opens through our teach and coach method of operations review.

How many people may attend training?

Two people may attend the training leading up to opening your restaurant.

What grand opening support do I receive?

In addition to having a dedicated Quiznos operations expert in your restaurant through your grand opening, included in the equipment that you purchase, you will receive a package of promotional items. This includes all sorts of materials to generate excitement about your restaurant's imminent opening in your community. You receive our eight-foot tall Q-Man costume, 2,500 coupons mailed directly to potential customers in your area, banners, yard signs, spinner signs, balloons, menus, business cards, coupons, door hangers, a fishbowl to collect business cards, grand opening party invitations and, of course, a training guide to help you enjoy a successful grand opening.

What happens once my restaurant opens?

Your Franchise Business Leader is personally assigned to you to provide ongoing support. That support comes in many forms including in-restaurant product training, coaching on marketing techniques, Operations Excellence visits and regional meetings. At the Quiznos Franchise Support Center, we also have a phone-in help line to assist you with your questions between the hours of 7 am to 6 pm Monday through Friday, and 8:30 am to 4:30 pm on Saturday.
